Bio

Welcome to a new year at DeSoto Central Elementary!

My name is Pamela Miller, and I will be your child’s SPOTLIGHT teacher this year. I would like to take this opportunity to tell you a little bit about myself and our program this year.

I have lived in DeSoto County my whole life and feel blessed to teach at DeSoto Central Elementary. I received both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Mississippi, and this will be my 25th year teaching in Southaven. I have been married to my husband, Gary, for 34 years. We have two grown children, Gary and Holly, and one grandchild, Noah. We are also parents to two inside fur babies, Daisy and Houdini, and four outside fur babies, Cher, Stevie Nicks, and Dolly.

SPOTLIGHT stands for Specialized Plan of Teaching Learners Involving the Gifted & Highly Talented, and this is going to be an exciting year for us! We will explore thematic units incorporating the areas of gifted education: affective skills, communication skills, creativity, information literacy, success skills, and thinking skills. Students will attend Spotlight class one day per week. Please feel free to contact me at any time if you have questions about classroom activities, unit material, or field trips. My email is pamela.miller@dcsms.org.

Parents are THE most important people in a child’s life, and I look forward to working with you for the benefit of your child. With school and home working together, I know that each and every student can have his or her most successful school year yet!

Thank you for sharing your child with me this year.
