Dear Parents,                                                                     2018-2019

Welcome to 3rd grade Spotlight ! My name is Barbara Denio, and I will be your child’s SPOTLIGHT teacher this year. I would like to take this opportunity to tell you a little bit about myself and our program this year.

I am a Desoto County resident and have been so since birth. It is a privilege and an honor to teach in my home community.  I have one daughter and three grandchildren. In my spare time, I enjoy crafts, sewing, and visiting with my family.   The only pets I have presently are the three chickens that live in the coop outside my classroom window. I hope your child will enjoy them as much as last year’s class.

I received my Bachelor’s degree from Crichton University and my Master’s in Gifted and Talented from Arkansas State University. I have been employed with Desoto County Schools since 1994. This is my 13th year teaching at Desoto Central Elementary School.

Students will attend Spotlight one full day a week. SPOTLIGHT stands for Specialized Plan of Teaching Learners Involving the Gifted and Highly Talented. I have an awesome year planned as we explore thematic units incorporating the areas of gifted education: affective skills, creativity, information literacy, success skills, thinking skills, and communication skills.

Parents are THE most important people in a child’s life, and I look forward to working with you for the benefit of your child. With school and home working together, I know that each and every student can have the most successful school year yet !!!

Please feel free to contact me at any time if you have any questions about classroom activities, unit material, or field trips.
