Subject: 4th Grade Math

Math: We are working on Chapter 6. Chapter 6 is DIVISION. We will be working on dividing multiples of 10, 100, and 1000, estimating quotients, we will be dividing using the distributive property, dividing by a one-digit number, dividing with zeros in the quotient, and solving multi-step word problems. These strategies are going to be very important to learn. Although parents are going to want to teach their children the standard algorithm for division, it is going to be a hard concept for them to grasp, students are going to be required to work these specific strategies on the tests. Please help them practice these.

Tentative Test date: Chapter 6: Thursday, November 9th or Tuesday, November 14th

*Starting the first full week of school students will write down their homework in their homework folder every morning when they arrive. Part of their homework each night is to study their multiplication facts. Students need to be studying EVERY night!

Every Friday we will take a multiplication timed test. There are 100 total questions, 50 multiplication and 50 division. (This is simple division such as 4/2=2) Division is the inverse operation of multiplication. They will see it like this on tests. They have to be exposed to this. They were doing the same thing at the end of their 3rd grade year.

Subject: 4th Grade Science

**Students are discussing and learning about the body systems. Students will demonstrate an understanding of the organization, functions, and interconnections of the major human body systems.

-We are starting the Nervous system on Monday, November 6th. Tentative test date: Thursday, November 16th

-We will be using technology to learn about systems and their functions and organs that work together.

-We will describe patterns of relationships between systems.

-We will construct models of systems to show their unique organs and how they work together.

-We will research how infectious diseases disrupt systems.

-We will use texts to investigate how scientific fields, medical specialties, and research methods help us find new ways to maintain a healthy body lifestyle.
