About the Teacher/Welcome Msg

I attended the University of Memphis when it was still Memphis State. I graduated in 1991 with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Elementary Education.

This is my 20th year of teaching. I taught 3rd grade for most of a year and 8th grade science for two years before my daughter was born. I returned to teaching when my son started kindergarten. This is my 18th year to teach 3rd grade at Desoto Central Elementary School.

Class Schedule

Holloway Newsletter August 12th

Parents I am excited about this school year. I look forward to instructing and building relationships with your children. I know this will be a great year. Please have your child at school before the tardy bell rings at 8:30. We have full instructional days that start promptly at 8:30.

If you want your child to receive a snack, you need to send it with him or her in the mornings. The PTO does sell some snacks in the morning as well. A resealable water bottle is allowed, but other drinks are not allowed in my classroom except on special occasions. You are all welcome to send in containers of animals crackers if you want them available for children without snacks. If they are here, I will offer them. If they are not sent in, each child will have to make due with what is sent from home.

I only take up lunch money on Monday. Your child is responsible for his/her own money on the other days. You may pay for the week on Monday or pay online with the link.

Please look your child's planner each night. It is a good way for you to make sure that your child is completing his or her homework. It also gives you the opportunity to discuss the topics that are covered each week.

Graded papers come home by Tuesday of each week. These papers should be corrected and returned within 2 days. If you need more time, send me a note.

I want to take a positive role in discipline as much as possible. I will discuss behaviors with the children one on one when appropriate. I want to help them learn to find ways to behave in a responsible way. We will work with a clip system in which they move clips when behavior is not corrected after a short reminder. The consequences are loss of some lunch talk time or having to walk laps at recess. If I do have particular issues that have had to be addressed in the classroomor that are recurring, I will send home a form that the whole school is using to report classroom behaviors that need to be changed.

Email is a great way to communicate with me. I am normally pretty good about responding within the day. (This may include evenings.) It also eliminates the hazards of sending a note with a child. I would like to have an email address for at least one parent or guardian of each child if possible. My email address is

The weekly newsletter is posted on this website at . It will not be copied unless there is no internet access in the home of the student. Please let me know if you need a hard copy.

Remember to send a note from the doctor the day your child returns to school after an illness in order for the absence to be excused. If a doctor's visit was not needed, you will need to send it in on a copy of the form that was sent home earlier this year. You can print a form off from the school website, or you can send me a note, and I will send a form home to you. Vacation time during the school year will not be excused. If you do have to travel during the school year it is helpful for your child if you send me a note ahead of time. Then I can allow your child to test early or take work with him or her if that is appropriate at the time.
